Pierre Gasly continues his breathtaking qualifying streak. The Norman qualified in the Top 10 again on Friday, during the Sprint qualifying at Losail. This is the fifth time in the last six qualifying sessions (Sprint and Grand Prix combined) that the Tricolore has managed to make it to the last session. Author of the 8th time in SQ3, he will start on the fourth row during the Sprint, behind the four Top Teams.
A position of "best of the rest" which places it ideally ahead of the main rivals ofAlpine at the championship: Nico Hulkenberg (Haas) and Liam Lawson (Racing Bulls) will start just behind the Frenchman on the Sprint grid. Pierre Gasly, aware of the stakes in the Constructors' standings – Alpine is currently 7th, one point behind Haas in 6th and three points ahead of Racing Bulls in 8th – already knows his objective on Saturday in the Sprint: to keep his two opponents behind him and score at least one point, which would put him in Alpine in 6th place ahead of the Qatar Grand Prix.

Pierre Gasly (Alpine), 8th in the Sprint qualifications in Qatar : “It was a great qualifying. We did the best position we could have hoped for. The four teams in front are really above this weekend on this track. I did a very good lap, I finished in front of the Haas [of Hulkenberg] and theAlpha Tauri [Lawson's Racing Bulls], so I'm really happy. It was a bit tricky too, I was less comfortable in the car tonight with the cooler conditions, so I'm really happy that we could do this SQ3 and qualify in 8th position."
"We know that [on Saturday], 8th place is worth one point and that's exactly what we're missing.. It's certain that there will be a big fight, it will be important to go and get him. I think it's Perez who starts a little further back, after in the race, in general, he comes back… but in the Sprint, it risks being more complicated [for him]. We will clearly fight for this point and it will be very important to finish in front of Hülkenberg and Lawson.
