How can you welcome a political figure into your garage without the visit being interpreted as support? This is the problem that arose at the stable McLaren in Miami who agreed to respond to Donald Trump's request out of respect and recognition for the office of President of the United States.

Did she feel obliged to remove any beginning of ambiguity about the presence of the former president of the United States and Republican candidate for the 2024 presidential election in her booth? Still, in the wake of Trump's visit, McLaren issued a statement: “ McLaren is a non-political organization, however we recognize and respect the office of the President of the United States, so when the request was made to visit our garage on race day, we agreed. We are honored that McLaren Racing has been chosen as the representative of the F1, which gave us the opportunity to showcase the world-class engineering we bring to motorsport."

The 77-year-old, currently on trial in New York for allegedly falsifying documents to conceal the payment of an hush money to adult film star Stormy Daniels, went to the McLaren garage to meet with the CEO of British team Zak Brown, F1 boss Stefano Domenicali and FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem.

The Republican presidential candidate had initially planned to use an Executive Club suite in the paddock to host a campaign fundraiser, before Tom Garfinkel, CEO of the Miami Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium, explained that there “would be no fundraising at the event, from anyone.” » After the race, Donald Trump returned to McLaren hospitality to greet the winner Lando Norris.
