Which driver at Red Bull in 2023?

Who will ride alongside Max Verstappen at Red Bull in 2023? This is one of the questions that is already animating the paddock even before the start of the traditional tub ball in August during the summer break. Two drivers stand out in this race, Sergio Pérez and Pierre Gasly. On the one hand, the Mexican driver is at the end of his contract with the team Milton Keynes and on the other, the Frenchman who is still under the Red Bull flag until 2023. For the moment, it is Sergio Pérez who is in pole position for his own succession.

Questioned before the Miami Grand Prix, Christian Horner, the team manager at Red Bull, questioned the name of the second driver in 2023. “ Checo does a very good job. He leads at a very high level. He is more and more comfortable with the team this year. However, we've only seen a four-race sample, so it's still early in the year. But everyone on the team is, you know, very happy with the work that Checo continues to do. »

In Miami, Sergio Pérez finished 4th, one place off the podium and he could have aimed higher if he hadn't had engine problems. After being a great asset for Max Verstappen's title in 2021, Checo has had a string of good performances this season. “ I think the car suits him better this year. It doesn't have some of the features that our previous three cars had », says Christian Horner.

But if Red Bull chooses continuity with Sergio Pérez, it is well aware that it would lose its French driver who had not taken his chance within the Austrian team in 2019. Helmut Marko, there himself confided he does not want to let the Norman go. Pierre Gasly has already expressed his intentions to find a seat to play for the first places next season and he will certainly not hesitate to leave the Red Bull pavilion after 2023, the date of the end of his contract, if the team of Milton Keynes cannot accede to his demands.
