The manufacturer of the Formula 1, Pirelli, has revealed the different possible strategies for the Dutch GP. According to the Italian supplier, the teams must opt for a one-stop strategy at Zandvoort. However, the lack of data collected during Free Practice due to the rain could well hold some surprises this Sunday, good or bad.
According to Pirelli, if the race remains on a dry track (which it should), the drivers have four strategic options. If starting on Softs, the first stop should take place around the 27th lap to put on Hards, or around the 30th lap to put on Mediums. A choice which will be dictated according to the degradation of the remaining rubber and new tires. If a driver decides to start on Hard tires, he will have to extend his stint until around the 45th lap if he wants to finish the race on Soft tires.
Finally, Pirelli is also proposing a two-stop strategy for the Dutch GP with a start in Medium, a first pit stop around the 23rd lap to move to Medium, then a second stop around the 50th lap to finish in Soft. . A strategy which could pay off if the deterioration is greater than expected, or in the event of an interruption of the race under Safety Car.
In terms of the remaining sets of tires for the Dutch GP, the rain saved several sets of tires for the teams, who all presented themselves at the start of the Grand Prix with at least one new set of Hard and Medium tires. Slight advantage for pilots McLaren, Williams and Racing Bulls who have two sets of Medium tires still unused. Obviously, all the drivers who progressed to Q3 no longer have new Soft tires, unlike the ten drivers eliminated before Q3.
As a reminder, Pirelli brought to the Netherlands the hardest tires in its range on the Zandvoort track: the C1 (hard), the C2 (medium) and the C3 (soft).
