The manufacturer of the Formula 1Pirelli has revealed the various possible strategies for the Bahrain GP. According to the Italian supplier, the teams are expected to opt for a two-stop strategy in Sakhir, due to the significant deterioration observed during Free Practice at the start of the weekend. Indeed, with the Bahrain Grand Prix being held a month later than in recent seasons, temperatures are higher than usual. Even though the race is held at night, temperatures are expected to be around 25°C.

Pirelli offers no fewer than five different possible strategies, including four two-stop strategies... and one single-stop strategy for the more adventurous. These are ranked from fastest to least effective, according to Pirelli.

  • Two-Stop Strategy #1 : Start on Soft tires, 1st stop around the 13th lap to fit Medium tires, 2nd stop around the 35th lap to fit Medium tires.
  • Two-Stop Strategy #2 : Start on Soft tires, 1st stop around the 13th lap to put on Hard tires, 2nd stop around the 36th lap to put on Medium tires.
  • Two-Stop Strategy #3 : Start on Medium tires, 1st stop around the 17th lap to put on Hard tires, 2nd stop around the 37th lap to put on Medium tires.
  • Strategy #4 for two stops : Start on Medium tires, 1st stop around the 19th lap to put on Hard tires, 2nd stop around the 41st lap to put on Soft tires.
  • Strategy #5 at a stop : Start on Medium tires, stop around the 25th lap to put on Hard tires.

In terms of the remaining sets of tires for the Bahrain GP, all drivers still have at least one unused set of Medium and Hard tires. The drivers McLaren, Ferrari, Aston Martin and Sauber even still have two new sets of Medium tires before the race, while Max Verstappen has two unused sets of hard tires. Regarding soft tires, only drivers who were eliminated before Q3 still have new tires available.

As a reminder, Pirelli brought the hardest tires in its range to Bahrain on the Sakhir track: the C1 (hard), the C2 (medium) and the C3 (soft).
