The manufacturer of the Formula 1, Pirelli, has revealed the different possible strategies for the Qatar GP. According to the Italian supplier, the teams could opt for a one-stop strategy at Losail with cooler temperatures than at the start of the weekend, using only the hardest tyres on offer. The soft tyres are not expected to be used on Sunday, barring any unforeseen circumstances or a last-minute Safety Car.
According to Pirelli, the drivers have three strategic options, including one with a one-stop and two with two stops: the first with a start on Medium tires, with a stop around lap 22 to put on Hard tires and finish the race. The second would be a two-pit strategy with a start on Medium tires, putting on Hard tires on lap 15 and then Hards again on lap 36. Finally, another two-stop strategy is possible but with the end of the race on Medium tires: for this option, the second stop would come around lap 39. All this will depend on the new tires remaining for each driver…
In terms of the remaining sets of tires for the Qatar GP, all drivers – with the exception of Aston Martin, Ferrari and George Russell – still have at least one set of unused Medium tyres. All have two new sets of Hard tyres, except the Saubers which have only one.
As a reminder, Pirelli brought the hardest tires in its range to Qatar on the Losail track: the C1 (hard), the C2 (medium) and the C3 (soft).
