Racing Point “has never been so well prepared” ahead of a season – Pérez

In recent years, Force India/Racing Point used to arrive at the Barcelona winter tests with a car that was not completely finalized, the fault of exhausted finances. A race against time began to arrive in Melbourne with a car optimized to the best of limited resources.

Since the takeover of the Silverstone team by the Racing Point consortium led by Lawrence Stroll mid-2018, the financial health of the former Jordan structure improved significantly but it took time for the investments to translate into reality.

Before becoming Aston Martin in 2021, Racing Pointe is reaping the first fruits this winter with an RP20 which embodies a radical change in concept, very largely inspired by the Mercedes Last year's W10. A technical choice desired and assumed by the pink team.

After a promising first week of winter testing in Catalonia, Racing Point continued at the opening of the second Barcelona test with a 3rd time for Sergio Pérez, who took over from Lance Stroll at the wheel at midday.

« I think we have never been so well prepared, said the Mexican, a member of the team since 2014. In the past, we have often tended to fall behind in the second half of the season. I think this will be the first time we can start a campaign in top form.

We are optimistic for the start of the season but the year is long so we have to see how much we are able to progress between now and Melbourne, then over the course of the races. We have work to do but the car has potential. This is undoubtedly the best package I have ever driven at the start of a season of F1

I hope these impressions will be confirmed in Melbourne but for the moment the car is running well and the signs are promising ».

Pérez will take the wheel of the Racing Point RP20 again on Friday at the end of winter testing.
