Racing Point wants to improve its efficiency with its new factory

Cross a threshold. This is what we want to accomplish Racing Point F1 at the moment of becoming Aston Martin Racing by 2021. A move under the banner of the English brand, made possible thanks to the financial resources injected by the investor group led by Lawrence Stroll, and which should mark the start of a new era for the old Force India.

In addition to this change of name, it is on the organizational level that Racing Point F1 will greatly evolve, with the start of construction of a new factory. Initially planned for 2021, this installation will not finally be ready until 2022, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“We have lost a lot of time due to the situation around the virus and the government's lockdown regulations, specifies Otmar Szafnauer, Team Principal of Racing Point on the F1 website. It was therefore impossible to set the date for completion of the work in August 2021.

When we looked at the situation, it made sense to move it a full year to August 2022, as this August break is the perfect time to move factories for us without disrupting the rest of the organization.

You have to remember that the factory we have now was built in the late 80s and was built for 150 people. We are overflowing and because of this,  we have pockets of engineers working in different locations and it would be much more efficient if we can all be brought together.

Our simulators are currently in a different location, our wind tunnel is in a different location, the modeling is in a different location: it's just not effective. »

Racing Point is due to resume this Wednesday behind closed doors at Silverstone for a day of filming, which will allow drivers Lance Stroll and Sergio Pérez to return to the track with this year's RP20. The mileage will however be limited to 100 km as required by F1 sporting regulations.
