La F1 launched the reply to Porsche during qualifying for the Belgian GP at Spa-Francorchamps. Despite the arrival of rain between the last two qualifying sessions, Kimi Räikkönen had time to complete the 7km in 1'41''553 with the super soft tires.
While the 919 Hybrid Evo driven by Neel Jani had broken the absolute record last April, the unbridled LMP1 had to lose by less than 3 tenths. A gap which did not fail to provoke a reaction from the Swiss who commented on Twitter: “The rain came too late and the Spa record was taken over by F1. It was tight. Maybe we should take this car (the Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo) out of the museum. »
Rain came too late and @circuitspa record went back to #f1 by only 0.27! Close! Might have to get the car back out of the museum#919evo pic.twitter.com/Fll7B3Uhzb

Kimi Räikkönen's performance was not enough to allow the driver Ferrari to fight for pole, the Finn having to return to the pits due to lack of fuel as the track dried out. The 2007 world champion will start from 6th place.
