Räikkönen takes pole position at Monza

La Team Ferrari signed the 60th front row in its history in Formula 1, but not really in the order expected on the Monza circuit (Italy). Kimi Räikkönen indeed overcame his teammate Sebastian Vettel at the end of the suspense in Q3!

The Finn notably benefited from the aspiration offered, seemingly in spite of himself, by his German colleague. In any case, it is the fastest lap in the history of this sport in 1'19''119, to the great pleasure of Italian fans.

Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) tried to spoil the party, without success. The Briton will still start from third place. The gap with the rest of the peloton is abysmal, because Valtteri Bottas, yet on a Mercedes, concedes more than half a second.

The battle in the second-rate stables was won by Romain Grosjean (Haas). The Frenchman beat the Renault de Carlos Sainz Jr (who celebrates his 24th birthday this Saturday) for a tenth. Much more efficient than his teammate Sergio Pérez (eliminated in Q1 without having made an attempt in the final minutes), Esteban Ocon (Racing Point Force India) will start eighth, ahead Pierre Gasly (Toro Rosso). The latter simply extinguished the threat of his teammate Brendon Hartley (regular 18th).

Note the performance of Lance stroll (Williams), who entered Q3 for the first time this season (10th). On the start of F1, Fernando Alonso (McLaren) and Kevin Magnussen (Haas) delivered a duel as spectacular as it was useless at the end of Q2. The two men got in their way and were unable to improve their times, which partly explains their elimination.

Bad surprise on the other hand for Charles Leclerc (Sauber). The Monegasque was taken out in Q1, just like his teammate Marcus Ericsson, while the champion Formula 2 2017 featured several times in the top 10 on Friday and Saturday morning. “I don’t understand what happened. We just lacked pure performance and we didn't expect it. »

The start of the Grand Prix will be given on Sunday at 15:10 p.m.
