Räikkönen angry: “Every year a plaque comes off somewhere”

If there is a driver who does not have his tongue in his pocket in the paddock of the Formula 1, it's good Kimi Räikkönen (Alfa Romeo). The Finn, a fan of sensational (and justified) declarations, had difficulty digesting the lack of seriousness of the organization of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix during the first free practice session, Friday April 26 in Baku.

After a few minutes of testing, the car of George Russell (Williams) tore off a manhole cover in the first sector. The wreckage was then brought back by a truck, which hit a footbridge with his crane.

Hydraulic fluid has leaked onto the Williams, forcing a second tow truck to take care of the car until returning it to the English garage.

In the meantime, the session was definitively stopped with the red flag. Nothing to make “Iceman” laugh! “We came across as amateurs. It's up to the FIA (International Automobile Federation. Editor’s note) to check that the circuit is in the best possible condition. But it seems like every year a plaque comes off somewhere or something flies away, plagues the 2007 world champion.

They say they weld the lid, but it's clear that it wasn't welded at all today. It is their role to see and check. There are a whole bunch of people here but the same incident happened before in Baku.”, recalls the Finn.
