Räikkönen on pole for the Monaco GP

Kimi Räikkönen won the 17th pole of his career, his first since the 2008 French GP at Magny-Cours (Nièvre), by winning qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix. This is his first pole in 128 starts. The 2007 world champion set the new lap record with a lap completed in 1’12”178.

La Team Ferrari monopolized the front row with Sebastian Vettel half a tenth of his teammate. Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) missed the first row for only two thousandths behind the four-time world champion.

The Red Bull de Max Verstappen et Daniel Ricciardo complete the top five ahead Carlos Sainz Jr. (Toro Rosso), Sergio Pérez (Force India), Romain Grosjean and McLaren of Jenson Button and Stoffel Vandoorne who was unable to compete in Q3 following his mistake in Q2 where he damaged his MCL32. The Belgian will only start 12th following a penalty received at the Spanish GP.

Hamilton only 14th

Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) was eliminated in Q2. Lacking grip, the three-time world champion saw his last attempt canceled following the yellow flag following the error of Stoffel Vandoorne (McLaren) who made the same mistake asEsteban Ocon (Force India) during EL3. The Briton is only 14th (13th with Jenson Button’s penalty).

Daniil Kvyat (Toro Rosso) took 11th place, falling 6 hundredths behind Jenson Button (McLaren). The Russian is ahead Nico Hulkenberg (Renault) and Kevin Magnussen (Haas). Felipe Massa (Williams) completes the list.

Esteban Ocon (Force India) was able to play part of Q1, but the Frenchman failed at the gates of Q2, falling 2 tenths behind Daniil Kvyat (Toro Rosso). The GP3 Series champion preceded Jolyon Palmer (Renault), Lance stroll (Williams) and the Saubers of Pascal Wehrlein and Marcus Ericsson who went crazy at the end of the session.

The start of the Monaco Grand Prix will be contested this Sunday from 14 p.m. and will be to follow exceptionally in live streaming on our website.
