Räikkönen and Ferrari best time in Barcelona

The 2007 world champion took his Ferrari SF70-H to the forefront this Tuesday, beating the test benchmark set this morning by Lewis Hamilton in the afternoon.

Räikkönen and Ferrari best time in Barcelona

Lewis Hamilton will not make the pass of two. After dominating the opening session of winter testing yesterday in Catalonia, the Briton Mercedes had shown himself the fastest this morning on the track, concluding with a reference time of 1'20″983, established on super-soft tires.

It was without counting on la Ferrari SF70-H of Kimi Räikkönen, author of a lap in 1'20″960 on soft tires, in the afternoon on the Montmelo track. The Finn thus finished the second day in the lead overall for the two sessions, ahead of the three-time world champion and also covered more than 100 laps.

Behind the Ferrari-Mercedes duo, Red Bull completes the top trifecta of the day. Max Verstappen concludes with the third time, but 1″2 behind the Räikkönen-Hamilton pair.

Kevin Magnussen follows in the ranking with its Haas VF17, with a time set on super-soft tires in 1'22″204. There car American showed remarkable reliability for this second day with 118 laps accumulated by the former driver Renault. Despite a late morning disrupted by a problem with his VJM10, Esteban Ocon was able to set the fifth fastest time of the day on super-soft tires with 86 laps on the clock.

Daniil Kvyat (Toro Rosso) follows in sixth position ahead Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes), who took over from Lewis Hamilton for the afternoon. The Finn was able to complete Mercedes' first race simulation during these winter tests, and suffered a small scare during the session when he hit the wall after losing control of his W08.

The old pilot Williams ahead of the Renault RS17 of Jolyon Palmer who, after a morning spent in the pits, was able to complete more than 50 laps. Antonio Giovinazzi (Sauber) also had a better afternoon, as the C36-Ferrari was spared the problems that affected the Italian Power Unit in the morning.

After a second Power Unit change for Honda in two days, Stoffel Vandoorne was only able to accumulate 11 short laps after the break, with the penultimate time on the line and a total of 40 laps on the MCL32 clock.

As Williams announced it just after the end of the morning session, Lance stroll did not return to the track in the afternoon, the Grove team awaiting the return of the damaged parts sent to the factory after the Canadian went off the track.
