Räikkönen and Giovinazzi to stay with Alfa Romeo in 2021

In a hectic 2021 transfer window, the team Alfa Romeo ultimately decided not to change anything. The Italian-flagged team (while entrusting operational management to Sauber) has extended the contracts of Kimi Räikkönen and Antonio Giovinazzi in Formula 1.

Having become the most experienced competitor in the sport in Portugal with 327 participations since 2001, the 41-year-old Finnish veteran clearly still has the flame for motorsport, as his stratospheric start in Portugal proved.

“Alfa Romeo Racing is more than a team for me, it’s like a second family, admits the 2007 world champion, who started in F1 under the leadership of Peter Sauber. So many of the faces that were around me when I made my debut in Formula 1 in 2001 are still there and the unique atmosphere of this team gives me that extra motivation to continue in what will be my 19th season in the sport.

I wouldn't be here if I didn't believe in the team's project and what we think we can achieve together. This is a team that values hard work over words and that fits my style well: I can't wait for next year and hope to take a few steps forward towards the middle of the pack with the 'team. »

His teammate Antonio Giovinazzi has retained the confidence of his bosses to compete in his third full season in F1. “The team placed a lot of trust in me and I did my best to return that trust with hard work and commitment.

We've had some good results and I feel like I've done my part to move the team forward, but there's still a long way to go and we want to achieve much more together. »

This announcement allows us to know a little more about the 2021 starting grid. From now on, there are only two steering wheels left to take on the side of Haas, another team using engines Ferrari. Romain Grosjean et Kevin Magnussen will not be preserved by Gene Haas and Günther Steiner. AUTOhebdo announced to you in issue 2283 that Mick Schumacher, leader of the Formula 2, is in pole position to start in this team next year.
