Räikkönen denies signing extension at Alfa Romeo

At almost 41 years old, Kimi Räikkönen still knows how to handle the hoop and remains one of the most popular drivers on the field.

By lining up on the starting grid for the 323rd time in his career on Sunday, the 2007 world champion will eclipse a record held by Rubens Barrichello since 2011.

The pilot Alfa Romeo, who unsurprisingly makes fun of this historic milestone, clarified that he had not yet signed an extension with his current team, brushing aside certain information reported in the press about a one-year option which would have been activated .

“Nothing has been decided yet,” Räikkönen said ahead of the Eifel Grand Prix. “Obviously, we have discussions with the team. In the end, it's my decision and we'll see what happens. »

There was never an option in my contract so I can tell you that this part is false. I didn’t sign anything today, yesterday, last week, or even last month.”

Referring to Barrichello's record which he is preparing to surpass, the Finn simply said that he “didn't really have a long-term project. It just happened that way.”

The guy did pretty well for someone who hadn't planned on making a career.
