Räikkönen finally leaves Ferrari

« By mutual agreement, we have decided to terminate the contract which linked me to Ferrari until 2010, one year before its end. » It is with these words that Kimi Räikkönen put an end to speculation regarding his future at Ferrari. The Finn therefore leaves the Maranello firm, three years after his arrival from McLaren.

« I am sad to leave a team in which I spent three fantastic years and during which I won many races. Together we won 50% of the world titles and I managed to win the Drivers' title in 2007, thus achieving the goal I had set for myself at the start of my career. I have always felt at home with everyone here and I will only have good memories with the team “, declared Räikkönen.

Ferrari director Stefano Domenicali also thanked his driver for his contribution to obtaining several world titles. “ Of course, we would like to thank Kimi for everything he did during his time at Ferrari. In the first year, he won the Drivers' title, contributing to Ferrari's history. He also played a crucial role in securing our 2007 and 2008 Constructors' titles. Even during a difficult season like this one, he demonstrated his talent by achieving several good results, including a superb victory at Spa and we are sure that we will be able to share more good times together during the last three races of this season?, concluded Domenicali.

The Finn should, however, receive copious compensation and in all likelihood head towards the McLaren team which would like to hire him to line up alongside Lewis Hamilton.
