Lotus F1 Team once again achieved variable performances with its two cars at the end of the first day of testing for the Canadian Grand Prix. If Romain Grosjean managed to get the third fastest time on Friday by finishing two tenths behind the reference time of Fernando Alonso, Kimi Räikkönen finished outside the top ten with a delay of almost eight tenths. The 2007 world champion seemed to have more difficulty warming up his tires in the cool conditions. The Finn also had to end his session following a brake problem. “We stopped as a precaution following a problem with the rear brakes but it is not worrying for the rest of the weekend”, said Alan Permane, Lotus F1 Team's director of track operations.
However, the difference in performance observed between the two drivers could worry the Finn who is looking to stay in contact with Sebastian Vettel in the Championship after a disappointing tenth place in Monaco. But the Scandinavian thinks he can progress with the management of his tires. “We improved the car all day. In the end, it wasn't ideal but not disastrous either. It wasn't easy to get the tires up to temperature today, but it was quite cold and it wasn't really a surprise. We will progress if we manage to make better use of rubber, but that will not change the world. We will try to warm them up a little more for qualifying depending on the weather. »
