Red Bull hopes for rain in race at Silverstone

After the first bursts of laps launched in Q1, on a wet track after the arrival of the rain, the clan Red Bull could have a smile with Daniel Ricciardo at the forefront in intermediate tires. The situation will ultimately only be short-lived, since on the one hand, the track conditions have greatly improved at the end of the first part of qualifying (Alonso signing the best time on slick tires), but above all, the Australian driver was forced to immobilize his car at the edge of the track.

Already demoted on the grid after a gearbox change, Ricciardo saw a new obstacle standing before him for the race. « I'm not 100% sure what happened, but it may have been a turbo failure, admits the winner of Baku.

I lost a bit of power on the straight and heard strange turbo noises. I thought I could make it back to the pits, but everything went dark. I'm just disappointed not to have been able to show more of our abilities in qualifying, with these conditions which would have given us an opportunity »

Rain as an ally for Red Bull?

Forced to start at the back of the line alongside Fernando Alonso, Daniel Ricciardo turns his hopes to the sky and the rain. On a tricky track, the RB13 showed itself to its advantage in Q1, both with the Australian and with the acrobat Max Verstappen, always at ease in the rain.

“We seemed to perform well on intermediate tires, continues Ricciardo. Points are won tomorrow and we have to work hard for that. Mixed conditions could help us, but I think in these conditions or in the dry we can fight in the peloton and get into the top ten. »

« We will wait and see what the weather brings tomorrow, hopefully rain, as I think I have a better chance of racing for a podium, indicates Verstappen for his part. I want to be realistic and not dream, so I hope my luck has changed and I can have a fun race tomorrow and bring the car back to the finish.

I'm not talking about a podium or a victory at the moment. If something happens to the cars in front of us, we can hope for a better result. »
