Red Bull was in a category of its own according to Hamilton

Nothing and no one seemed to be able to prevent a Red Bull to take pole position this Saturday evening in Mexico. Because if Max Verstappen was unable to become the youngest driver to achieve a pole, following problems with wheel locks when downshifting and decelerating, Daniel Ricciardo came to replace the young Dutchman perfectly.

Enough to prevent the usual tandem Mercedes - Ferrari to monopolize the first line, with Lewis Hamilton 3th in front Sebastian Vettel. The Briton admitted not having been able to do much against the two RB14s.

“The Red Bulls were very fast in sector two and the engine Renault seems to work well at high altitude, as does its high downforce package, Hamilton points out. I think they were probably in a category of its own today, so I'm happy to be as close as I am. »

If he intends to join the fight for victory tomorrow, Lewis Hamilton will undoubtedly have to look at the more global picture, in order to secure seventh place which would be enough for him to win a fifth world crown.

The world champion is counting on the starting procedure to try to interfere between the two Red Bulls and protect himself in a sense from Sebastian Vettel, with the previous edition in mind.

“You saw what happened last year, with the red car behind. I don't know, I think it really depends on how we start. But third place is a good place to start, you have the aspirations of the drivers in front of you, so naturally I will be fighting to try and gain a position. »
