Red Bull, the big mess

Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel, two weeks ago in Monaco, celebrated a double in Monaco by jumping into the port of the Principality. Today, in Istanbul, the two men lost all chances of shining by colliding (see video). Responsibility for the accident is shared.

On the one hand, Mark Webber did not really leave the door open for Sebastian Vettel, while the latter did not tighten his trajectory to avoid hitting the leader of the World Championship at the entrance to the fatal corner.

« I was inside, explains Vettel. I was concentrating on the braking point, we were side by side and we touched each other. Mark's car hit me on the right rear wheel and I went out. We were both in the same rhythm. I even think I was faster than Mark for two or three laps. I caught him and thought I could overtake him. I was close and overtook him on the left. It happens, there is nothing to do. »

For his part, Mark Webber is doing better since he did not have to give up. Penalized by the contact, the Australian returned to his pit and was able to finish in third place. “ Sebastian had a better top speed than me, he acknowledges. We were riding side by side but I was surprised when he suddenly came to the right, while I was holding my line. Everything happened very quickly and it?s a shame for the team. »

If responsibility for this accident remains shared, there is no doubt that this incident is the grain of sand which could become an element in a possible discord between the two men. If good relations prevailed in Monaco, this accident in Istanbul could have long-term repercussions. Christian Horner, who had managed to avoid this type of situation until now, must also put things in order, because a team candidate for the world title cannot let this type of golden opportunity slip away.
