Red Bull doesn't blame Albon for his FP1 crash

« An expensive session », This is how Christian Horner summed up the session of Free Practice 1 of the Brazilian Grand Prix, marked by a better time but also an exit from the track for his driver Alexander Albon in the last minutes.

The Thai rookie was then running on soft red tires on a track that was still very wet after being swept away by heavy showers in the morning.

Albon lost control of his Red Bull-Honda RB15 in the Junção bend which commands the last climb towards the start-finish line. He then found himself on the grass and was unable to prevent a slide which ended in the wall of tires with a broken suspension at the front right.

This is not the first time that the London native has gone off the track in free practice this season. But Horner did not want to blame the one who has just been reappointed to Red Bull in 2020.

« We can't blame Alex today, declared the British manager at the FIA press conference. We were perhaps a little too optimistic on a track that was still wet in sector 2.

Max got hot in Senna's Esses when his brakes were cold and other cars veered wide. The mechanics had a shorter lunch break.

Alex has had a few accidents this year but luckily they always happened on Friday or Saturday. In qualifying and in the race, he always responded ».

Earlier this season, we often heard Red Bull, or rather its influential advisor Dr Helmut Marko, talk about a lack of spare parts as soon as Albon's predecessor, Pierre Gasly, was the victim of an exit from the track.

Obviously the problem has been resolved.
