Red Bull is not in the expected position for Christian Horner

Facing Mercedes et Ferrari in the running for the world title, Red Bull Racing has a record below its expectations after the first part of the 2017 season.

The duo Daniel Ricciardo - Max Verstappen was only able to achieve one success, putting the Australian's assets in Baku. For his part, the Dutch prodigy was only able to score one podium in China, failing to realize the hopes placed on him after the 2016 season. This was due in particular to technical problems, such as his two engine problems at the Canada and Azerbaijan.

However, despite this mixed balance sheet, Christian Horner, Team Principal of the Milton Keynes structure, remains satisfied with the progress of his team.

“After a difficult start, we have managed, since the start of the European season, to gain new momentum, emphasizes Horner. We come into the summer break with six podiums, including one victory, and we are third.

I think the most remarkable aspect is how the car has developed, particularly, as I said, from Spain. And in recent races we have started to be very competitive. I think the team works very well collectively. »

Reset the counters

The head of Red Bull Racing, however, confesses that the position of his team against its two rivals Mercedes and Ferrari remains below his expectations at the start of the season.

The second half of the championship could, however, better suit the RB13s, on certain tracks where the qualities of the British chassis could take precedence. “We are getting more performance out of the car, and there are tracks that will suit us and we will continue to push until the last race in Abu Dhabi. »

There is a big gap between us and the cars in front, but there are opportunities in the remaining races and we will try to do what we can and obviously the lessons you learn apply for next year .

I think we're not where we wanted to be, but we are working hard to move forward. I think we will approach the second half of the season as a reset and see what we can achieve over the next nine grands prix. »
