Red Bull does not want to see Vettel at Ferrari

To Fernando Alonso, a career in Formula 1 cannot be considered complete without having one day defended the colors of Ferrari. If Lewis Hamilton does not in any way share the opinion of his former teammate at McLaren, many drivers dream of one day racing for Team.

Supported by Red Bull since he started, Sebastian Vettel would he be one of those? Would the young German, whose image is inseparable from the Austrian firm, aspire to one day join the Italian brand? If this was the case, Dietrich Mateschitz told World on Sunday that he would try to make this transfer “as difficult as possible”.

Not long ago, Vettel had actually stated in the columns of Bild that Mercedes and Ferrari were “the past, the present and certainly the future of F1”. His contract with Red Bull coming to an end at the end of 2011, the leaders of the Austrian team are doing everything possible to extend it.

After having invested so much to help his team win, Dietrich Mateschitz is not ready to let his little prodigy go. According to him, the best way to retain him is to continue to provide him with the best car of the board. With people of the caliber of Christian Horner and Adrian Newey at the head of his troops, the big Red Bull boss is therefore confident. Especially since he finds it difficult to see Alonso accepting having Vettel as a teammate.

However, in the event that Red Bull is unable to provide its driver with a good car, then Mateschitz admits that he might reconsider his point of view. “We would let him go, even if he had a contract” he told the German newspaper.

“We know Ferrari's policy, and Sebastian can count on an important factor with us, adds Helmut Marko, head of the Red Bull Junior Team. He needs a team that will not stick a knife in his back at the slightest difficulty encountered. There will be no 10-year contracts because we cannot guarantee that we will make a competitive car for that long. But in the medium term, for the next three or four years, we fully intend to continue with Sebastian.

Fans of the Austrian team can rest assured, a transfer of Sebastian Vettel to Ferrari is currently highly improbable.
