Red Bull thought they were closer to Mercedes

The statements of Sebastian Vettel et Daniel Ricciardo showed a hint of disappointment at the end of the first two free practice sessions for the Hungarian Grand Prix, which will be contested on Sunday at the Hungaroring. If Sebastian Vettel ranked 3rd in the second session behind the two Mercedes de Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, the four-time world champion, hoped for better.

“I thought we’d be closer. (The German finished more than six tenths behind Lewis Hamilton’s reference time, Editor’s note.), admits Vettel. But we have seen that teams can make big steps forward overnight, like Williams, so you have to be careful. I hope we can take a big step forward to maintain our pace tomorrow, and be able to use a little more power. »

For Daniel Ricciardo, it is the lack of general grip that poses a problem. “We thought we would find some improvement in this area for the afternoon, but we didn’t make any progress. So you have to work to understand this. »

Red Bull can also rely on Renault which focused this weekend on the optimization of the software management of the Power Unit's thermal engine, as well as on the optimization of the new fuel that the Total oil tanker brought from Germany.
