Red Bull lost two months of development

We had to wait for the Spanish Grand Prix to see the first podium of Red Bull thanks to 3e place of Daniel Ricciardo. This lack of performance at the start of the season can be explained by a correlation problem between the wind tunnel and the track.

« I think at the start of the season, we tiptoed back in, since our tools didn't match what we were seeing on the track., comments the RBR Team Principal Christian horner.

“Above all, I think our wind tunnel was taking us in the wrong direction. The size of the model and the size of the tires, in the wind tunnel that we have, gave us some crazy results. Before, it gave us very precise and faithful data, but suddenly, we had discrepancies between the wind tunnel and the track. »

These problems prevented the development of the RB13 for weeks, with Red Bull still lagging behind in performance. Mercedes et Ferrari. Today there is still a gap of 134 points between the Austrian team in 3e position in the manufacturer's ranking and Ferrari, current runner-up in the championship.

« It cost us between two and two and a half months. Afterwards, it's easier to work and cross-check information on the track, but it's not as if the other teams aren't doing anything either. »

“It was in Melbourne that we really identified the problem. We had to resolve the problem and develop the car based on the results we obtained. It was in Barcelona that we saw real progress. Since then, we've improved with each Grand Prix, we've really improved the car. I think we made a lot of progress during the first part of the year. We lost a lot of ground but we hope to be more competitive for the second half of the season."
