Red Bull questioned Ricciardo's potential

Now that Daniel Ricciardo packed his bags to join Renault F1 Team, tongues are loosened a little more at Red Bull.

Team Principal Christian Horner revealed that the Milton Keynes team had hesitated to recruit Daniel Ricciardo after his time at HRT F1 and Toro Rosso to replace Mark Webber.

“It was a pleasure to have him on our team for the last 5 years, commented Christian Horner. He has been with Red Bull since 2007 and it has been fantastic to see him develop and grow. We were faced with a dilemma when it came time to replace Mark Webber. There was Jean-Éric Vergne, Daniel Ricciardo, Kimi Räikkönen. »

“Our biggest worry about Daniel wasn't his speed, but we didn't get to see him fight wheel to wheel when he was at Toro Rosso, explained the head of Red Bull Racing. But since he has been at Red Bull Racing, he has not only overtaken but become the best attacker in the sport. »
