Red Bull prepares to take on McLaren in 2018

Christian Horner, Team Principal of Red Bull Racing, has already set the course for his team in 2018. The hierarchy could evolve in the peloton next year since McLaren will no longer be penalized by the poor performance of Honda Power Units by having engines Renault, blocks which will be identical to those of the Milton Keynes structure.

“McLaren is a great team with competitive drivers and we hope to take them on track, declared the director of Red Bull Racing to the agency Reuters last weekend in the GP paddock where the Taureau Rouge celebrated its third victory of the season with the success of Max Verstappen. We made good progress in the second part of the season and our objective will be to stay on this upward slope in 2018. (Renault) has a reference with Red Bull. »

Renault must still make progress on its Power Unit to match the references marked by Mercedes et Ferrari. The weekend at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez where the engines suffered from the altitude, several mechanical failures raised fears of a retirement for Max Verstappen.

“We will benefit from fairly stable regulations and the lessons learned with the RB13 will be retained for the 14. We obviously hope that the performance and reliability of the engine improves during the winter because these are fundamental points for us. I think we demonstrated that we had built a high-performance chassis. If we remember the lessons learned this season, we should be able to start stronger than this year when we were one second behind the lap in Melbourne (Australia).”, added Christian Horner.

McLaren is chasing its first victory in F1 since Jenson Button's success at the 2012 Brazilian GP.
