Red Bull sets record for shortest pit stop with Gasly

It still takes longer than the blink of an eye, but it's already very quick. Sunday July 14, during the British Grand Prix, the mechanics of Red Bull made the fastest pit stop in the history of the Formula 1, by replacing the four tires of the car de Pierre Gasly in only 1''91 !

The Austrian team thus beats the previous record by a hundredth., which held Williams (with a stop by Felipe Massa in Azerbaijan in 2016) and… Red Bull (with Mark Webber in the United States in 2013). To be complete, Ferrari won the shortest pit-stop award in 2018 with Sebastian Vettel in Brazil in 1''97.

A ranking of the best passages through the pits is organized by one of the sponsors of F1. After the British round, it is Red Bull who leads the debates (266 pts) ahead Williams (188 pts), which has never been so well placed this season, and Ferrari (179 pts).

It seems simple from a television screen, but the athletic performance of the mechanics is worth highlighting. Data relating to the weight of a tire is kept secret by the manufacturer Pirelli and the teams, but it is doubtful that a tire is as light as a football...
