Red Bull aims for front row in case of rain

The double of Red Bull Racing in Sepang (Malaysia) seems to have given wings to the Milton Keynes team. The RB12s seem to be able to take the lead again this weekend at the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka.

Max Verstappen set the fourth fastest time at the end of the second practice session, but the times do not reflect the true performance of the Taureau Rouge cars.

“It was one of the most productive Fridays, rejoiced the winner of the Spanish Grand Prix. Everything seems to be working well, the car settings are good and we seem to be performing well on the different types of tires, even with the hard ones. We were stopped in our tracks by the virtual safety car during our short stints and the tires lost a bit of temperature, meaning we didn't show our true potential. »

“After Malaysia, we are aiming for another good result. This circuit should suit us and we are close to the front at the moment. Ferrari is in the game on the short relays, but I'm not sure of their level on the long ones, added Max Verstappen. We are talking about rain for later and I think its presence would work in our favor. »

Daniel Ricciardo shares his teammate's enthusiasm as the Australian has just returned to victory last weekend.

“We had a great day. We made progress this afternoon, we would have set a time of 1'32 which would have placed us close to Kimi (Räikkönen, 3rd in EL2) without the virtual safety car, underlined Daniel Ricciardo. We seem to be performing well on our long runs. We could be close to Mercedes and place us ahead of the Ferraris in qualifying if we make further progress... We could even aim for the front row if the rain gets involved. »
