Renault announces new technical restructuring at Enstone

Renault announces this Friday a restructuring of its aerodynamic department in anticipation of the 2020 season and affirms “ strengthen its organization to meet the challenge and seize the opportunities offered by the 2021 regulations ».

Peter Machin, who headed aerodynamics after having officiated at Red Bull, leaves the stable by mutual agreement with immediate effect. Dirk de Beer succeeds him in the same position. He will be supported by an assistant who will join Renault in 2020 from another team. Vince Todd will serve in this position on an interim basis until his arrival.

James Roberts, aerodynamicist responsible for projects related to future cars, is promoted to aero chief and will be responsible for aerodynamic development and performance.

« In 2019, we showed strengths, but we also identified areas that need strengthening, commented Cyril Abiteboul, main Renault team. After rapid growth in our aerodynamic department and modernization of our equipment, this strengthening of management in a key department will help us reap the benefits of our investments. This is all the more relevant as we enter a very important year in our medium-term plan since the 2021 aerodynamic regulations are now confirmed. »

« We are delighted to welcome Dirk as head of the aerodynamics department, said Marcin Budkowski, executive director ofenstone. His technical and managerial skills make him the ideal profile to lead such a large and complex department. James has demonstrated a strong ability to generate performance and this new role will allow him to guide the aerodynamic development of all our vehicle projects. These changes represent a further step in the restructuring of Enstone's chassis business and I am confident that they will see us resume our progress towards the front of the grid. »
