Renault awaits its sanction

Nelson Piquet Jr was present in Paris. While the Brazilian had already “at the table” by recounting at length the circumstances of his intentional accident during the Singapore Grand Prix in 2008, his presence before the World Council proved necessary. No doubt fearful of the reaction of her former team, Nelsinho arrived at the FIA headquarters in Paris, accompanied by a security service. Fernando Alonso, winner of this Singapore Grand Prix, was also there, as was Bernard Rey, director of Renault F1 Team. All that was missing were the two main players, Flavio Briatore and Pat Symonds, who are no longer part of the Franco-British team.

According to the first information that has leaked, Renault could face a two-year suspended sanction. If the FIA wishes to show that the matter is serious and deserves sanction, the departure of Briatore and Symonds should be seen as a gesture on the part of Renault. But above all, the Federation does not want to see the manufacturer withdraw from Formula 1. A heavy financial sanction would be a fair penalty but which could have the effect of seeing Renault leave the world of F1. The World Council could then take a ?responsible?? decision, by only condemning Renault to a suspended sanction, so as not to condemn a team which has accumulated difficulties this season.
