Renault at the Montreal reveal

In 2014, Renault et Red Bull scored their first success of the year in Canada, after the setbacks of the Silver Arrows of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, stopped in their winning streak by brake problems. A year later, as the French engine manufacturer tries to narrow the gap on its rivals Mercedes et Ferrari, the Red Bull and Toro Ross single-seaters will have to face the demanding Canadian track.

« The Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve subjects internal components to intense pressure, explains Rémi Taffin, Operations Director of Renault Sport F1. More than half of the route is negotiated at full throttle, with two long straights, and the brutal braking points at which they end place enormous demands on the ICE (thermal engine). With these straight lines and these braking points, even the energy recovery systems will not be spared. In the end, it is very complicated to find the right formula. »

Renault seems for the moment to have resolved its reliability problems, after several breakdowns at the start of the season, but there is still work to be done. “We are aware of the challenge that Montreal represents in terms of performance […] We are constantly progressing and hope to continue this good dynamic to get even closer to the outposts in Montreal. » adds the Frenchman.
