Renault against further postponement of future regulations

The suspension of the 2020 season and the financial crisis experienced by certain teams due to the coronavirus pushed the organizers of the F1 à postpone for a year the implementation of the new regulation. The teams will now have to wait until 2022 to see the discipline change its face with its new single-seaters.

If the most modest structures will have a little more time to prepare for these important changes, Racing Point was in favor of a new postponement through its director Otmar Szafnauer. The general director of Renault sport racing Cyril Abiteboul opposes a new renewal.

“I think Otmar knows that he has a very competitive car and that he will no longer have the same advantages if the regulations change. The extension of the current regulation has been their strategy since day one » said the director of the French team on the F1 website.

“I don't agree with that just because they are probably our direct opponent this year, said Cyril Abiteboul. F1 must progress. When everyone emerges from this crisis, there will be strong competition between sports to regain their shine and interest the public. »

“We must not lose sight of the fact that we must offer a competitive discipline and an attractive platform for spectators, sponsors and the media. This is why the new regulations were developed”, insisted the Frenchman.

Racing Point was singled out at the start of the year, its RP20 being seen by certain competitors as an almost perfect copy of the Mercedes W10 world champion last year.
