Renault achieves its best result since its return

After difficult qualifying where neither RS17 was able to reach Q3, Nico Hulkenberg was able to avoid pitfalls at the start to place himself in a good position for the rest of the race.

A time stuck behind the Sauber of Pascal Wehrlein, Hülkenberg benefited from his two-stop strategy to pass the C36-Ferrari and obtain the best result from Renault Sport F1 Team since their return last season. “I felt comfortable with the car, but we could see that we still have work to do to catch up with our closest rivals, relates Hülkenberg.

This sixth place is a great result, which rewards us all. We had some success with leading cars offside from the start or a little later and we clearly took advantage of it. »

If Hülkenberg's race was a great success, Jolyon Palmer's was more complicated with an aggressive three-stop strategy which did not pay off for the English driver who finished fifteenth. With the eight points scored by the German this weekend, Renault, now seventh in the Manufacturers' championship, has overtaken Haas F1 Team, who only won one point in Catalonia with Romain Grosjean.
