Renault hopes to shine in the Singapore night

Impatience seems to be growing in the clan of teams powered by the Power Unit V6 turbo/hybrid at the Diamond in view of the weekend in the city-state of Singapore.

If on one side Red Bull Racing hopes to place as a direct competitor to Mercedes to play for victory, the objectives will be more measured in the clan of the Renault Sport F1 Team, but Frédéric Vasseur's team hopes to do better in Singapore than during the R.S.16's last outing at Monza.

“It’s a type of circuit that should suit us better than those visited recently, confesses Team Principal Frédéric Vasseur. We can hope for results that are more in line with those obtained in Budapest or Spa. »

Due to its nature, the Asian route puts less strain on the engine block of the single-seaters at full load, which could be suitable for the car of the Diamond. Jolyon Palmer is impatiently awaiting the atypical challenge offered by the night event.

“The circuit evolves widely over the weekend with a surface that becomes softer and the weather conditions are quite different between the first two practice sessions, then between FP3 and qualifying.

Finding a good balance on the car gives us a lot of work, because the temperatures are also lower at night. This is not a typical weekend! »
