Renault will evaluate several new products in Hungary

With a sixth place at Silverstone, Nico Hulkenberg equaled his best result of the year, but also that of Renault Sport F1 Team. The French structure believes that it has made significant progress in the operation of its RS 17 and now hopes to maintain this good momentum in Hungary before the summer break.

« We arrive in Hungary in positive shape due to the recent performance gains seen on our car, comments Cyril Abiteboul, director of Renault Sport Racing. We showed at Silverstone that we continue to improve.

Chassis developments, particularly the new floor pan, were highlighted with Nico's eight points and both cars showed good pace in qualifying. It is essential to maintain this improvement with both cars in the top ten in Hungary.

We want to finish the first half of the season on a positive note. To do this, we must manage our reliability problems. We know our situation and the areas that need more attention. Our objectives remain unchanged: we want to be sixth by July 30 and fifth at the end of the season. »

Multiple evolutions

On a Hungaroring track opposite the ultra-fast sections of Silverstone, the RS 17s of Hülkenberg and Palmer could once again show their advantage, thanks to the developments validated in England. Updates which should play a role on the Hungarian turnstile, which notably requires an agile car in the sequences of the second sector.

« We had significant aero upgrades at Silverstone and expected to see improvements in overall grip and stability, underlines Nick Chester, technical director in charge of the chassis.

We made the car more manageable with more downforce. This is a big step forward and we could see it in the measurements taken on the car, so we are confident that this will continue. »

Nick Chester also details the new features coming for the Hungarian Grand Prix on the RS 17s, both of which will receive the new flat bottom seen on Nico Hülkenberg's single-seater in England.

“Both cars will have the new flat bottom that we have validated. We will also evaluate changes to the bodywork in its front section and a modified cooling package. »
