Renault: Alonso's analysis

Fernando Alonso will experience a new start in his racing career in Formula 1. After the titles won with Renault in 2005 and 2006, the rivalry exacerbated with Lewis Hamilton in McLaren-Mercedes in 2007 then the return to the Renault cocoon in 2008-2009, the Spaniard will relaunch at Ferrari. But, less than a week after his end of the season with Renault, the native of Oviedo wanted to take stock, accurately, of this difficult year.

The Spanish driver, disappointed at not having been able to do better at the wheel of the R29, knows that the poor start to the year led the team to quickly turn towards 2010. Renault stopped development early and I completely understand this decision », Comments the pilot for itv-f1.com. “ I hope that, thanks to this, they will have a good car next year. »

Despite everything, the Spaniard knows that this decision prevented him from being able to compete with the rest of the field. “ It was decided to stop development of the car and look towards 2010 and with each race we paid him more. We arrived, during the last race, with the same car that we had five months earlier. »

Even if he recognizes that the R29 was far from perfect, Fernando Alonso believes that Renault was able to try its luck on several occasions. “ We cannot forget that, in several races, we were able to be competitive. At one point in the championship we added some new elements and we had maybe the third fastest car on the grid. »

But, from the start of the season, the car stamped 2009, from which everyone expected a lot after the good end of the 2008 season, quickly showed its limits. “ I think aerodynamics have been key in recent years in Formula 1 but even more so this season with the new rules. From this point of view, the philosophy of our car was not in phase. »
