Renault: the resurfacing of Silverstone will be the main novelty

After a failed weekend in Austria with the two R.S.19s out of the points, Renault F1 hopes to bounce back this weekend at the British GP in order to stay in touch with McLaren who escapes in 5th position in the Manufacturers' Championship.

The main challenge for the Losange will be to adapt to the new, recently resurfaced Silverstone track.

“We are not expecting any big surprises at Silverstone except that we will have to learn the new asphalt, explains chassis department director Nick Chester. You need to have a front axle with a lot of grip to take turns at high speeds, but you can't put too much aero downforce because of the long straights. It’s always a challenge to properly set up a car at Silverstone. »

“The track has evolved over the last few years, adds the Renault engineer. You can't really know what to expect until the first free practice sessions. We will adapt the car accordingly. In theory, the surface should be less aggressive and it should evolve over the sessions. This will significantly influence how the tires react. »
