Renault maintains its presence in F1

When Renault formalized a vast cost reduction plan of 2 billion euros over 3 years to deal with its recent difficulties and the crisis linked to the coronavirus pandemic, the question of the future of the team F1 could legitimately arise.

However, we should still see the single-seaters badged with the Diamond on the F1 circuits in the coming years. “We have said publicly and we confirm that we remain committed to Formula 1, comments Clotilde Delbos, interim general manager of Renault, quoted by AFP.

The announcement of new regulations on spending caps is very good for us because we will have to invest less in this discipline than some of our competitors who spend a lot of money. So we are and remain in F1. »

Liberty Media has indeed announced several radical cost control measures for F1, including the introduction in 2021 of a budget cap of 145 million dollars (132 million euros) and a new and evolving handicap system in terms of aerodynamic development. An emergency plan immediately welcomed by several teams, including McLaren and Renault already.

“Renault F1 Team welcomes the adoption of the new regulations by the World Motor Sport Council, which constitute responsible and appropriate responses to the short and long term challenges of Formula 1.” the manufacturer said last Wednesday.

With the future now clarified, Renault will be able to focus on a major issue: that of the future replacement Daniel Ricciardo, leaving for McLaren in 2021.
