Renault loses big in the match for 3rd place among Manufacturers

What happened ? How Renault could go from exciting prospects after qualifying to such a disappointing result? On Istanbul Park (Türkiye), Daniel Ricciardo et Esteban Ocon were aiming for at least the top 5, especially by gaining impressive momentum on a wet track:

Unfortunately, everything went wrong from the first braking. “I found myself stuck between Lewis [Hamilton] and Esteban at the first corner, describes the Australian. I had nowhere to go. I touched my teammate and it's a situation you always want to avoid. »

The Frenchman had a lot on his heart. “I was happy with my departure since IIt was probably my best flight this year. I was third or fourth at the first corner before that unfortunate spin when Lewis [Hamilton] got close to Daniel, who touched me in the back. »

Then, the Norman pilot suffered a second collision against Valtteri Bottas a few turns further! What followed was an unscheduled trip to the pits to change “wet” tires while 10 minutes later, it was time to put on the intermediates. " Since then, any return promised to be complicated. We did our best and we will quickly turn the page. »

Esteban Ocon finished just outside the points while his teammate dropped his pace after his last pit-stop. From seventh, he fell to 10th place. “We just couldn't make the middlemen work when we had them. At times I was told I was one of the fastest in the race, then my tires were completely dead a few laps later so it was a bit of a lottery. »

The Executive Director of the Jaunes-et-Noirs, Marcin Budkowski, prefers to concentrate on the last three upcoming events to fill a 18 points behind Racing Point among Manufacturers (13 points out of McLaren). “We are now focusing our attention on the final three races in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi, where we expect to be more competitive on more conventional and grippy surfaces and we will want to respond in the fight for third place in the championship. »
