Renault remains confident in the reliability of its engine

Renault Sport F1 Team encountered various mechanical failures on the R.S 17 during winter testing in Barcelona (Spain). If the test program of the car byenstone found itself compromised, the Franco-British team remains positive in hoping to resolve these teething problems before the season opener on March 26 in Melbourne for the Australian Grand Prix.

“We have a completely new Power Unit for 2017 and our running was limited by an ERS item this week, explained Rémi Taffin, the technical director of the engine part. We had similar problems on the test bench, but it got worse on the track. »

“Repairs are already underway and we are counting on everything being in place for Melbourne to have a good level of reliability for the start of the season.”, added the French engineer.

Renault's Power Unit only covered 804 laps this week before the final day, compared to more than 1000 for the blocks Mercedes et Ferrari.
