Renault remains optimistic for the Canadian GP

Renault Sport F1 Team did not have an easy weekend at the Monaco Grand Prix as Kevin Magnussen and Jolyon Palmer dropped out. The Losange team, however, remains optimistic as it approaches the Canadian GP contested on the Gilles Villeneuve circuit in Montreal on June 12, banking on the evolution of its Power Unit.

“Sometimes it’s better to move forward rather than dwell too much on the last race.”, comments Cyril Abiteboul, the director of Renault Sport Racing. “With many problems this year, Monaco has not smiled on us and so it is better to focus on Canada. A number of reasons make us optimistic for Montreal, the main one being that, for the first time, both of our drivers will benefit from the new powertrain evolution. This one behaved well in Monaco, but we should see the full benefit of it on this much more “motor” type circuit. Everyone is also very motivated to put the bad Monegasque moment behind us and fight for much more representative places. »

“The main thing is the B specification of the powertrain which works well while giving us potential in the future”, adds Frédéric Vasseur, director of Renault Sport F1 Team. “It’s a big step forward for performance, both in power figures and handling. Reliability was also there and we are delighted with this progress. »
