Renault focuses on 6th place

Si Renault Sport F1 Team approached the 2017 season with the main objective of securing fifth place in the Championship, the French team now plans to finish in sixth position in the Manufacturers' standings currently occupied by Toro Rosso which has a five-point lead over the Diamond with two Grands Prix remaining at the end of the season.

“If the objective of reaching fifth place remains mathematically possible, it became difficult after a race (the Mexican GP) where we did not finish in the points, recognize Cyril Abiteboul, the general director of Renault Sport Racing. Mexico perfectly showed our potential in terms of performance. Unfortunately, both cars retired despite being seventh and eighth on the grid and fourth and fifth after the first lap. The points were clearly within our reach. »

Renault Sport F1 Team changed drivers during the season with the arrival of Carlos Sainz Jr replacing Jolyon Palmer from the US GP in Austin (Texas). The Losange will have the same crew next year and intends to make significant changes to its Power Unit to get closer to the performance of the 6l turbo/hybrid V1.6 of Mercedes et Ferrari.
