Renault apologizes to Red Bull and Lotus

Sebastian Vettel et Romain Grosjean retired seven laps apart due to an alternator problem putting a premature end to their race while both drivers were at the front and competing for victory in the European Grand Prix. The heat and the six-lap race interruption may have had an impact, but if the two mechanical problems relate to a problem with the new alternator, the first examinations suggest that the causes are different.

“We must apologize both to Red Bull and Lotus for the problems that occurred on the cars of Sebastian and Romain », comments Rémi Taffin, the track operations manager of Renault Sport F1. “Both suffered alternator problems, although it appears at this stage that the reasons are different. Sebastian's overheated and the engine stopped, while Romain's alternator failed which stopped the electrical power to the engine. We will of course conduct an in-depth analysis of the causes of these incidents as soon as they return to Viruses in order to eliminate any risk for Red Bull, Lotus, as well as our other partners. »
