Renault, under the eye of Luca de Meo

At the end of May, Renault announced a vast savings plan of 2 billion euros, accompanied by the elimination of 15 jobs around the world, including 000 in France.

Clotide Delbos, interim general manager of the Group, had however indicated that Renault's commitment to Formula 1 was not called into question, quite the contrary.

Last weekend, Luca de Meo, the new CEO of the French manufacturer, was present at the Spanish Grand Prix to experience the event from the inside. A first on the ground which aroused enthusiasm in the yellow and black ranks.

« With Luca de Meo we have a CEO who is truly passionate about cars and racing, this is great news, welcomed Cyril Abiteboul in Catalonia.

This will clearly make a difference for everyone at Renault. I had the opportunity to talk with him and I won't hide from you that he did the same with other players in the paddock ».

The main French team specifies that the new strong man of the Losange has not set precise objectives for his flock for this season.

« He knows that we are invested for the long term, added Abiteboul. He is aware of what is being built with the resources that are ours. He has a better knowledge of the sport, which can only be beneficial for us. But he has very clear expectations, not only for the racing team on the track but also in the role it must play in the Group's strategy. ».

After meeting the Italian businessman, Esteban Ocon declared himself seduced by his interest in motorsport.

« We immediately see that he is someone who comes very informed and learns really quickly., rejoiced the Norman. He doesn't talk about things he doesn't know. Having such an involved boss is great! On the morning of the race he gave a speech in which he gave us his vision for the F1 program and the brand, and that includes some great projects. Honestly, he wowed me ».

Between the lines, we sense that the new CEO intends to build on the formidable platform that Formula 1 still offers more often than his predecessors.

From this perspective, signing big results would obviously not hurt. For a first in the field, Luca de Meo was able to measure the distance that still remains to be covered.
