Renault under threat from Toro Rosso in the Manufacturers' standings

Was it Renault was getting his hair done to the post by Toro Rosso ? The two teams are fighting for fifth place in the Manufacturers' standings. Before the final in Abu Dhabi, the French team is eight points ahead of the Italian structure, galvanized by Pierre Gasly's second position in Brazil two weeks earlier.

Friday's free practice did not restore confidence to the men of Cyril Abiteboul, with times slower than rival single-seaters. “I'm not going to lie, there is a load and a little tension,” explained Daniel Ricciardo.

The Toro Rossos seem to be doing well here. I like that we have something to fight for in the last race. It keeps us on our toes. We have a bit of work to do but I think tomorrow (Saturday) will be OK. »

Furthermore, the Australian broke his engine in the first training session. “He was at the end of his life”, swept the smiling pilot anyway. The afternoon was better but on a flying lap we were not fast enough.

Qualifying promises to be tough for Renault, but could go well if understanding of Pirelli tires is improved in the meantime. “ We did not get the full potential of the tires because I achieved my best time during my second attempt with a C5 compound, which should not be the case here, He continues.

I don't think I worked the tires enough on the warm-up lap. So I think there's still a little time left to look in that direction, but we must not believe that this will give us six or eight tenths.

So we need to find something in the settings. Probably cut the pear in half: 50% in settings, 50% in tire heating."
