Renault Sport F1 confirms Toro Rosso in 2014

Renault Sport F1 will have at least three customer teams next year, when the 6l turbo-hybrid V1.6 comes into force. Carlos Ghosn, CEO of Renault-Nissan, was present this morning in the paddock of the Monaco Grand Prix to confirm the agreement with the Team Toro Rosso from the 2014 season. Viruses-Châtillon managed to land this contract by benefiting from the links that unite it to Red Bull Racing to whom it has supplied RS8 V27s since 2007. Le Losange also announced that it was finalizing a privileged agreement with the Milton Keynes team.

Jean-Michel Jalinier, President of Renault Sport F1, was keen to emphasize that finalizing the contract was not simple. The future V6s from the French engine manufacturer would indeed be the most expensive on the board. “Although it seems obvious to discuss the supply of our Power Unit to Toro Rosso, given the existing partnership with Red Bull Racing, it was not a foregone conclusion. We carefully considered what would be the best option for all parties before reaching this agreement. Toro Rosso are a well-established team, with a good technical staff and facilities which give them the potential to regularly claim points. Renault remains involved in F1 to win and to demonstrate the excellence of its products. To achieve our goals, we need to have teams that perform at their best, and that is why we are delighted to sign with Toro Rosso. »

Franz Tost, Team Principal of Toro Rosso, is pleased to see the agreement already finalized for the future season, which will allow the Faenza team to prepare as best as possible by working closely with Viry-Châtillon. “We are delighted to reach an agreement to use the Renault Power Unit from 2014, when the new regulations will bring interesting changes. It is particularly important that we have managed to finalize our plans early, which means that we will be as well prepared as possible for next year. While looking forward to working with Renault, I would also like to thank Ferrari, our supplier since 2007. They have provided us with an extremely efficient and reliable engine, as well as excellent service. »

Renault Sport F1 has not confirmed the contract extension with Caterham F1 Team. But the links which unite the Losange with the British manufacturer, with a common project on the rebirth ofAlpine, and the confirmation of President Tony Fernandes, bring no doubt about the future of the Malaysian team with the Diamond.
