The simulator is good, real life is better. Start of the week, Fernando Alonso has reconnected with his stable of heart Renault with a view to his return to competition in 2021 under the colors Alpine F1 team.

The Spaniard actually paid a visit to the chassis department ofenstone (United Kingdom) spread over 2 days, including one spent in the F1 simulator. He then headed to Viry-Châtillon (Essonne) to review the installations of the French manufacturer's engine plant.

The veteran from Oviedo (Asturias) is now looking forward to getting back behind the wheel, his last experience on the track dates back to post-Bahrain Grand Prix testing in 2019 with McLaren.

« He really wants to ride so we're going to study that., told Cyril Abiteboul, main Renault team, from Sochi. There are several opportunities, in compliance with sporting regulations. We didn't use up all our filming days, for example. I also had the opportunity to talk about the testing session which must take place after the season. We also have a 2018 car that we can drive anywhere with. You will see Fernando in action. I just can't tell you yet when and where ».

Each team has a pair of promotional shoots annually where driving is limited to 100 kilometers. Teams can also race single-seaters that are at least two years old as part of private tests. Renault is using this authorization to give driving time to its young companies, including its Chinese test driver. Guanyu-Zhou, seen recently in Budapest behind the wheel of the RS18.

Finally, the session organized after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is traditionally devoted to Pirelli tire tests and allows the teams to run their young drivers. Renault is currently in discussions with the relevant authorities to allow the returning Alonso to take part in the event despite his 311 career starts.
