Renault wants to regain control

Renault F1 Team is the team of Formula 1 who has been the most talked about off the track this season. But the French manufacturer is determined that things will change and everything will return to normal. Jean-François Caubet, new CEO of the team, declared that “ the team must rediscover the Renault culture », which had been forgotten under the Briatore era, the team being more in the image of the Italian fanciful than that of the diamond firm.

« We don't want to go back to the period of the 80s, when Renault completely controlled the team, he added. But we do not want to make the same mistakes by leaving total autonomy to the team. » The words of the new general director therefore suggest a return to control of the image of the team, where the manufacturer had left full powers to Flavio Briatore in recent years.

« There is no deadline to find a team manager, our Caubet. I have no comment to make on the names that have been put forward. We will look for someone when the contours of the position have been defined. It could be December or January. » Renault, to avoid the mistakes made in recent years, will therefore delimit the responsibilities of the next team manager, before finding the ideal candidate to fill the role.

Jean-François Caubet also added that, despite the efforts made to improve the R29, forces were now focused on developing the next car in order to start 2010 on a better basis. But Renault also needs to find sponsors, after the departure of ING and Mutua Madrilena. “ Times are tough for sponsors. Despite the reduction in costs, sponsors will not provide the same budget to the team in 2010 and a new method of financing must therefore be found. We could not start anything before the decision of the FIA World Council. Now we can resume our research »
