Renault wants to return to Mercedes

Renault currently occupies fifth place in the constructors' championship, a good position after the difficult year 2009. The team?enstone heel even today Mercedes, the least impactful team of the four members of the “big four”, the four teams regularly cited to win the world championship. James Allison, technical director, believes Renault can climb to fourth among manufacturers.

« I think we can do it because we are right behind them in qualifying pace, while it seemed like we had the advantage in race pace in Sepang., says James Allison. We are going to introduce new developments in China, a new flat bottom and an evolution of the front wing. Even if this development was not enough to overtake Mercedes in qualifying, it should allow us to pursue them. And, if we could be in front at the start of the race, I think we have the performance to stay there. »

In addition, the technical director of Renault F1 Team confirms that development continues intensively, and that the factory's work rate is very high. “ We have made no secret of the fact that our intention was to be aggressive in developing the car in 2010. Aggressive development means having effective ideas and putting them on the car as quickly as possible. Our current pace of aerodynamic development is more intense than ever; it is at least double compared to last year. In addition, the factory is doing everything possible to produce the elements in approximately half the time compared to 2009. »
